About Ullr Ski Medals, Inc.
I created Ullrskimedals.com in 2008. I got the idea for the site while looking for a special gift for a friend's son who was heading off to a high school in the Adirondack Mountains to compete on the snowboard team. I knew that Ullr was the Norse god of skiing and that an Ullr medal was the skier's good luck charm, and the perfect gift for a young man about to embark on a mountain adventure. However, I had never seen an Ullr medal nor did I know where to purchase one. My search for the perfect gift finally took me to Ebay, where I was able to purchase a few antique medals. Intrigued by the designs and variety of the medals I found, I continued to buy medals on Ebay and scour the internet, for more information about Ullr and the medals.
What I learned about Ullr and St. Bernard and photos of the medals I have collected appear on the pages of the website. Most of the antique medals I now own have an Ullr character (or St. Bernard) on one side and a picture of a European ski town on the reverse. Often the elevation of the town in meters is listed under the picture.
Not only are Ullr medals a great way for North American ski resorts to advertise, they are also a great way to commemorate any ski or mountain related event. Celebrate the opening of a new lodge or lift with an Ullr medal. Ski safety organizations and not-for-profits can sell them at fund raisers. Remembering your group's last ski trip will be a lot easier with a custom designed Ullr medal.
Skiing is the only sport that has a god. Not only do we have a god protecting us, but we also have our own Saint, St. Bernard. The next time you get on a chairlift or travel into the backcountry, make sure you have your favorite Ullr medal with you.
ULLR SKI MEDALS is committed to skier safety, and donates one percent of total sales to ski safety organizations.
